Many people have speculated that fuel was damaged in the spent fuel pools at Daiichi.
Unit 3's pool was extensively damaged. A crane fell into it and the building itself collapsed around it. Fuel was most definitely damaged at unit 3's pool.
Unit 4's spent fuel pool burned more than once. Documentation exists for the fires in March 2011. I have visual evidence of fires from November 2011 to February 2012 (see webcam fire here and see comparative images of the unit 4 building in May of 2011 and 2012 here).
Bobby1 discusses recent scientific reports of spiking cesium beginning in early November 2011 (study here; Bobby's discussion here).
The situation at spent fuel pools 1, 2, 5, 6 have not been fully disclosed. Nor has the condition of the common spent fuel pool.
The common spent fuel pool has been a subject of much discussion on the Enenews Webcam Discussion forum here because so often steam releases seem to occur in the direct vicinity of the common spent fuel pool.
I have visual evidence this morning to illustrate how the steam releases start, envelope the plant, and then fade away until the next iteration of the cycle. The steam rises, suffuses the plant, dissipates, and then begins again. Some days the cycle is more rapid than during other days.
I suspect these events are occurring as a result of sub-criticalities. A sub-criticality is a nuclear chain reaction that does not lead to an explosion but still releases considerable heat. See my discussion here
