Fukushima Contamination Never Ceases

Fukushima Daiichi has looked steamy and funky during night hours over the last week on TEPCO cams 1 and 4, with yellow-tinged discoloration over the site visible on the Futaba cam during day time hours:

Fukushima Daiichi Futaba Cam Sunrise Over Fukushima shows yellow-haze over site:

Kodama Tatsuhiko, Professor and head of the Radioisotope Center at the University of Tokyo, described the Fukushima BLASTS in March 2011 in comparison to the atomic bombs while addressing the Committee on Welfare and Labor of the House of Representatives on July 27, 2011.

Prof. Tatsuhiko described the Fukushima blasts as producing the heat equivalent of 29.6 Hiroshima a-bombs, although also noting dis-similarities in radioactive decay patterns in his account:
“when we compare the amount of radiation that remained after the a-bomb and that of radiation from the nuclear plant, that of the former goes down to one-thousandth after one year whereas radioactive contaminants of the latter are reduced to only one-tenth,” producing far greater lasting contamination.[i]
This description of the initial blasts should be updated with an estimation of the ongoing atmospheric radioactivity of the site.
Efforts should also be made to assess the contamination of fresh and ocean water by Fukushima radionuclides.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother to monitor this seething cancer upon the earth but then I am inspired by the demonstrations of South Korea's comfort women, and other similar demonstrators/resistors, whose stubborn persistence (despite marginalization and/or disdain), forces recognition and acknowledgment, with the hope of true transformation.

  1. Majia, I have a screenshot just this morning at the same site that looks just like yours here on 7/11 and a few days before another blast just like that in pink. It has happened a few times in the last month.

    1. I think something must have worsened for the NRA Chairman to publicly speak of a "sense of danger."

I can only hope that whatever went wrong can be mitigated...

  2. Majia, I also have a screenshot from this morning of unit 4 with the same pink area Unit 1 had no pink in the picture.

  3. The differences in radioactive decay rates bodes ill when NPPs meltdown. Long term radiation health effects were extrapolated from the bomb data, not the constant drip, drip, drip at Fuku. Good job with the photo record Majia, thanks.

    1. Good to hear from you Horse. Agreed on the differences between Fukushima and atomic bomb fallout. The former is "dirtier."
