Solar Flares, Spallation, and Fukushima Fallout

I love being outside and every weekend I hike Friday afternoon and Saturday. Sunday I swim, hike or ride the stationary bike. I've been doing this for years and my body is accustomed to the exercise.

So this weekend wore me out in a very unusual way. I feel as if I've had way too much sun; I feel the way I do when I'm out in the Phoenix summer sun (110+ Fahrenheit) for too long.

I feel burned. In fact, I did get burned and so did my oldest son, who is rather dark skinned.

I have experienced before feeling this way after activity outside on days with high Radnet readings for my area.

One possible reason I felt "burned" this weekend could be that we are experiencing a spike in gamma rays because of recent solar activity hitting earth; this spike could be interacting with the range of radionuclides in our air and environment because of Fukushima fallout.

Potrblog writes Wed Mar 7: Another Solar Storm, Another Round of Radioactive Iodine Detections to Come?

[excerpted] "Another series of Solar storms have been underway this week, previously these solar storms have correlated well with indeterminate radioiodine detections in Europe. Our hypothesis predicting these European Iodine "Jod" events has been solar proton spallation of Fukushima generated Cesium 133, and/or Plutonium 239. Given that the geomagnetic impacts of this storm are predicted to potentially be severe, the available spallation zone may be greater than typical. Please keep an eye out for reports of unusual radiation detections over the next week or so, especially in the sunlit side of the impact area (expected to be eastern Europe).

Spallations aside, a severe geomagnetic storm prediction would indicate that it is advisable to take cost effect appropriate risk mitigation actions. A simple wise precaution would be to make sure one's vehicles have a full tank of fuel..."
