I've been noting that units 1 and 2 at Fukushima Daiichi (visible on the TEPCO Webcam 1) have been looking rather steamy.
Today, the view from Cam 1 is quite distinctive because the illumination has been changed and the vent tower is brightly illuminated, as illustrated in these screenshots below:

I've seen this change in lighting before but what is new is the bright illumination of the vent tower.
The vent tower in the foreground has been an issue for some time, with concerns expressed at its high radioactivity and its potential for collapse due to structural damage and/or liquefaction, caused in part by massive amounts of water coursing under the plant.
I'm not sure whether today's view denotes any significant changes or not.
I'll post again tomorrow with any observational updates.
Fukushima Daiichi will not get better. There is too much fuel and RADIONUCLIDE contamination there. Japan does not have to be nuclear. Vietnam is not nuclear. japan is unsustainable. They are reopening, damaged nuclear plants there.

After months of in-fighting, the beleaguered Oregon Republican Party elected a new chairman last weekend. His name is Art Robinson, and he wants to sprinkle radioactive waste from airplanes to build up our resistance to degenerative illnesses. Robinson, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress against progressive Rep. Peter DeFazio in 2010 and 2012, took over after the previous chair resigned in advance of a recall campaign over her alleged financial mismanagement.
Robinson, who has a Ph.D. in chemistry, has marketed himself for the last three decades as an expert on everything from nuclear fallout to AIDS to climate science in the pages of a monthly newsletter, Access to Energy, which he published from his compound in the small town of Cave Junction. A quick glance at his writings, which were publicized during his ill-fated challenges to DeFazio, suggest that whatever the failings of the previous party leadership—Democrats now hold all statewide elected offices and control both houses of the state Legislature—Robinson brings with him a new set of challenges entirely.
On nuclear waste: “All we need do with nuclear waste is dilute it to a low radiation level and sprinkle it over the ocean—or even over America after hormesis is better understood and verified with respect to more diseases.” And: “If we could use it to enhance our own drinking water here in Oregon, where background radiation is low, it would hormetically enhance our resistance to degenerative diseases. Alas, this would be against the law.”

Moreover, large numbers of HIV carriers who are symptom-free are being treated by powerful life-threatening drugs that kill people in ways very similar to AIDS.”
(His conclusion on the AIDS epidemic: Homosexuality might be a natural consequence of the gay lifestyle, and the federal government had cooked the books “as an excuse for all sorts of social engineering, especially in the public schools.”)

The results suggest that damage occurred at various points in the early stages of heart development and not from damage to a single gene at a specific point in time.
“Nuclear accidents may have wide-ranging adverse effects on various types of congenital heart disease. The earlier the radiation exposure happens in a developing heart, the more likely it is that the nuclear accident could have a negative impact on more parts of the heart,” Murase said.
Researchers also note that, while the concentration of radiation in the air in Japan was declining in 2014, the number of operations for complex congenital heart diseases remained high.

Long a global leader in efforts to reduce nuclear-weapons stockpiles and limit nuclear proliferation, the United States is now fostering the conditions for a new global arms race. With hawks calling the shots in US President Donald Trump’s administration, a nuclear conflagration in one of the world’s hot spots is becoming more likely.
………. the author of The Art of the Deal has followed the advice of someone who has yet to meet a deal he didn’t want to tear up: Trump’s national security adviser, John Bolton. Having already dispensed with the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in 2002, during his tenure in President George W. Bush’s administration, Bolton has used his position in the Trump administration to launch attacks against the INF Treaty and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPOA) with Iran. Most likely, his next target will be New START. Signed by Obama and then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Prague in 2010, that nuclear arms reduction treaty will expire in 2021, barring an agreement on its extension.
With the steady collapse of the international arms-control architecture has come a fresh race to develop new types of nuclear weapons. The potential use of these weapons is now discussed with such frivolity as to foreshadow a return to the darkest days of the Cold War, but one that is even more dangerous, because other countries not subject to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), such as North Korea, have since joined the nuclear club.

Cambridge Analytica’s path to Republican glory started with Steve Bannon’s brokering of an investment by Robert Mercer. With help from these GOP insiders, they were able to sign the John Bolton Super PAC as a customer, billing them for $1.1 million for “research” — howtos for microtargeting potential voters using Facebook. The proposed that Bolton could trick people into exposing their friends’ personal data by enticing them to take a personality quiz. Bolton’s PAC is a laundry for Mercer money.
From there, CA received large paydays from Art Robinson, a Mercer-backed GOP candidate in Oregon, Colorado anti-abortion extremists Centennial Coalition, and For America, another Mercer front.
The John Bolton Super PAC, led by the former diplomat and foreign policy hard-liner, paid Cambridge Analytica more than $1.1 million in the 2014 and 2016 cycles for research, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Mercer has been the largest donor to Bolton’s super PAC, giving $5 million since the 2014 cycle, according to FEC records.
Part of the work that Cambridge Analytica performed for Bolton’s super PAC was psychographic voter targeting, which the company claimed could profile voters on the basis of certain characteristics. The predictive microtargeting was based in part on data gleaned from Facebook profiles and other sources, according to documents and former Cambridge Analytica employees.
