Coral that has turned brown because it is covered with algae after it was bleached and died is seen in Sekiseishoko, Japan's largest coral reef situated between Ishigaki Island and Iriomote Island, Okinawa Prefecture, in this Nov. 30, 2016 photo. The Environment Ministry announced that 70.1 percent of coral on the reef has died after being bleached, based on a survey that its Naha Nature Conservation Office conducted on 35 locations between November and December last year. Experts believe that the coral bleaching was caused by higher sea water temperatures last summer.
