I've been so busy and also discouraged that I've found it difficult to blog. There is a cultural contagion of resentment and authoritarianism that is circulating ever more forcefully around the globe.
Today (12/19) I read in the Wall Street Journal that amendments to the charters of three Chinese universities prioritize "absolute adherence" to party rule over academic independence. (Wen, P. China Draws Fire over Academic Controls, p. A18).
China is hardly alone in tightening controls over free thought and speech.
In 2014, Japan passed the Act on the Protection of Specially Designated Secrets, which tightened government controls and sanctions on information, allegedly at the behest of the US government:

Officially known as the Act on the Protection of Specially Designated Secrets, which went into effect in 2014, the law gives ministries and agencies discretion to classify information in areas such as defense, counterterrorism and diplomacy as state secrets. Leakers, including civil servants, could face up to 10 years in prison and those who instigate such leaks, including journalists, could be subjected to five-year prison terms.
The law was steamrolled through the Diet in 2013 by the administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe despite a mass public outcry over the obscure nature by which information will be designated as a state secret.
In an interview with the weekly magazine Sunday Mainichi in its Tuesday edition, Snowden said the enactment of the controversial law was requested and designed by the U.S. government to facilitate the NSA’s espionage activities in Japan.
But its not just macro level policy where we see rising authoritarianism.
I see arbitrary demonstrations and exercise of power displayed across my everyday life in such varied contexts as the workplace, the freeway, and neighborly spaces.
Everyday sadism and arbitrary authoritarianism are unfortunate, but ultimately escapable elements, of human experience. However, we are living in a time when these dark aspects of the human condition are rising in a contagion of ressentiment, egomania, and nihilism.

Operation Mixed Company sounds like a title for a movie .
It was not a movie but the name the Nuclear Defense Agency had given a series of eight nuclear
blasts scheduled to begin Thursday, June 1, 1972, at 11 a.m.
Grand Junction had been buzzing with talk about the nuclear test scheduled to take place on
Glade Park about 18 miles southwest of town.
According to a news report in The Daily Sentinel, the blast went off at exactly on schedule, and
within four seconds “a mushroomshaped, charcoalcolored cloud ascended against the blue sky
as the sound and a slight air blast were felt.
This blast was the first of eight scheduled by NDA to learn its effects on the sandstone
geological formations and a variety of structures that had been constructed at the site on Glade
Park.
People were curious, and most likely somewhat concerned about what effects a 20ton blast of
TNT would have on homes and businesses. While those in town waited to learn about aftereffects, about 50 people had gathered at an
observation area more than one mile from the blast site.
Some folks in the valley said they felt their houses shake a little, but, for the most part, no one
reported hearing or feeling anything.
The last of eight tests was done on Monday, Nov. 13. It was a 500ton blast. It left a crater 14
feet deep and 160 feet wide , which the military assured the landowner would be refilled with
dirt and planted with grass.
According to The Sentinel news story, various military equipment was included in this test to
gauge the air blast and groundshock affects.
Targets included parked helicopters, a remotely controlled flying helicopter, parked tanks and
personnel carriers, bunkers, an aircraft shelter and foxholes. The NDA was also quick to assure
the public that nearby water wells and springs would be checked for adverse affects.
There were reports of broken windows in the fivetosixmile range from ground zero, but these
repairs were quickly dealt with, according to military spokesmen. Some Glade Park residents
reported feeling the ground shake from the blast.
A friend of ours, who asked that I not use his name, watched the preparation for the tests from its
beginning.
He said that the last blast was the most interesting because it was the one in which they set off
500 tons of explosives. Watching the blast from the observation area, he said that as the shock
wave came across to the observation area, the sagebrush appeared to be rolling. As the shock
wave got to the observation area it felt like it was rolling through his body.
He said there had been three large concrete reenforced hangars built at the site and that the
plutonium trigger had been placed on a large tower in the middle of the hangars.
Before the blast, the hangars were filled with airplanes and helicopters to test the impact on
equipment. When the blast went off, the equipment was destroyed and the steel doors blew off
one hangar but the other two remained intact.
A new Army tank was placed at the blast site, and it was blown two and onehalf miles from

Our friend helped with the cleanup and said that at the end of each day a Geiger counter was
passed over the participants to test for radioactive exposure. After one such test he was told not
to have an Xray for five years.
Several of us working at the Sentinel on both mornings couldn’t contain our curiosity and
stepped outside hoping that we would see something of the blast. And we did. We could see the
dark mushroomshaped cloud as it appeared on the horizon in back of the monument. The cloud
from the last blast was somewhat larger than the cloud from the first one.
At the time it was an eerie feeling to me, as I stood there looking at the mushroom cloud. I had
visions of hiding under our desks in grade school as we went through the drill on what we were
supposed to do in case of a nuclear attack. I also remember thinking that I hoped we wouldn’t die
from exposure to radiation from that cloud.
I didn’t feel the earth move under my feet, but I did hear a noise like that of a sonic boom, and I
got to witness some Western Slope history.
This was not a prell mixed dynamite explosion. This was a tactical nuclear explosion, tested on a city with a population of 20 thouasnd people in america like the bombs in nevada were tested on americans and the Green run radioctive iodine release at hanford was.

In 1957 the cooling system in one of the tanks containing about 70–80 tons of liquid radioactive waste failed and was not repaired. The temperature in it started to rise, resulting in evaporation and a chemical explosion of the dried waste, consisting mainly of ammonium nitrate and acetates (see ammonium nitrate/fuel oil bomb). The explosion, on 29 September 1957, estimated to have a force of about 70–100 tons of TNT,[10] threw the 160-ton concrete lid into the air.[8] There were no immediate casualties as a result of the explosion, but it released an estimated 20 MCi (800 PBq) of radioactivity. Most of this contamination settled out near the site of the accident and contributed to the pollution of the Techa River, but a plume containing 2 MCi (80 PBq) of radionuclides spread out over hundreds of kilometers. Previously contaminated areas within the affected area include the Techa river, which had previously received 2.75 MCi (100 PBq) of deliberately dumped waste, and Lake Karachay, which had received 120 MCi (4,000 PBq).
In the next 10 to 11 hours, the radioactive cloud moved towards the north-east, reaching 300–350 km (190–220 mi) from the accident. The fallout of the cloud resulted in a long-term contamination of an area of more than 800 to 20,000 km2 (310 to 7,720 sq mi), depending on what contamination level is considered significant, primarily with caesium-137 and strontium-90. This area is usually referred to as the East-Ural Radioactive Trace EURT

Hasn't political correctness (another of Lenin's numerous gifts to humanity) more or less shut down free expression in Academia? Though once rather pleasant and stimulating environments the contemporary university has become a kind of intellectual gulag. How one of the worst thinkers in Western Civilization, Karl Marx, has managed to distort reality for generations is a real puzzle. One can be very intelligent and still fall for this insidious monstrosity called Marxism though being stupid can help a great deal. Do millions more need to die before human kind finally kicks Marxism out of existence? I suppose persons who live primarily in their heads are especially vulnerable to utopic visionaries . . . or was Marx simply the expression of an hostility generated over centuries between Jews and Christians which finally manifested as a poisoned theory that would somehow make up for all the pogroms . . . was Marx the poisoned cookie?

I can hardly imagine a more discouraging environment than a modern American university. Gone are the halcyon days when professors had a great deal of freedom and were highly regarded. When it was a small minority that pursued higher education; and that minority could read and write well.
But that is no consolation for those who have worked hard to attain a tenured position only to find it somewhat of a deadly thing like working at a nuclear power plant. I wonder what the suicide rate is for college professors?

DeleteDr. Nadesan is one of the finest teachers, I have ever had the opportunity to interact with. She has the mental-organizational skills, patience and proctoring skills that makes her one of the most excellent teacher's and professors.
Dr. Nadesan has an innate sense of fairness and balance that pushes people to inquire and inspires people to push the boundaries of their knowledge. I know, I have watched her for 7 years, here and elsewhere. She is not limited to ideas and information derived from books. She is quite rigorous, in her structural frameworks for communication but, she leaves things opened for people to think outside-of the-box and derive interprations that she will discuss. Dr. Nadesan's level of expertise as a teacher, and astute academician, sets her past the forefront of her peers in the subject matter she discusses and writes about. It relates to these most-important and relevent issues that confront us in the 21st century.
She is light-years ahead in her field. in topics of biopolitics studies of Crisis Communication, related to the most pressing environmental and nuclearity issues tied governmentality, confronting the human race, today.
Dr. Nadesan is probably one of the most influential and relevant modern thinker's, that exists, who deals with this subject matter that encompasses varied the disciplines of science , politics, economics and communication. She is precise and yet passionate . She is pushing limit's, in defining and setting frameworks that will make or break our existence, as sentient beings on this planet.
I would be priviliged, to actually take and sit in on, any of her courses.
I have only read one of her books. Now that I have time, I will read more. I have had the honor to be taught by some of the best Medical Toxicologists in the world. Majia is one of the best teachers, I have ever had. The subject matter she undertakes, is the most complex and emotionally draining, most of us will ever be confronted with. I am extremely empathetic to the challenges she faces in pursueing it. If Dr. Nadesan, has to take a break or give-up the blog, I believe most of us would be understanding of her position in doing so, though I hope she can continue being influential in all the other settings she works in. I am thankful to her for the things I have read by her and learned from her. I have not been a very good student.

I went to a University with a large right-wing student body and faculty. The economics professor there was fired, for the way he taught economics in the good ol USA. He was a good teacher.
