Judge backs Obama administration on secrecy of targeted killings of terrorism suspects By ,
But the judge also described a “veritable Catch-22” of security rules that allow the executive branch to declare legal “actions that seem on their face incompatible with our Constitution and laws, while keeping the reasons for their conclusion a secret.”
...The case combined separate challenges from the American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Times to the administration’s refusal to release documents about targeted killings under the Freedom of Information Act....
Majia here: This article covers an important issue. How is it that the US administration can claim that its secretive targeted drone programs that essentially kill foreign citizens without trial or public justification of grounds is legal?
Furthermore, how is it that the US public allows this to occur without outcry when innocent children are frequently the target of these fascistic and morally reprehensible drone attacks?
The article explains that the ACLU filed a lawsuit claiming that the departments of Justice, Defense, and CIA refused to provide any information for the legal basis for the selection and killing of foreign civilians without due process.
The ACLU lawsuit, filed last February, said the Justice and Defense departments and the CIA were illegally using secrecy claims to deny requests in 2010 for information about the legal basis for the killings and the selection process for target.
The article also addresses an inquiry by the NYT concerning US citizens placed on the hit list without due process or habeas corpus.
I find this entire process of targeted killings without due process and habeas corpus to be INCREDIBLY ALARMING.
Habeas corpus is an ancient right. Do you realize that the sovereign right to kill is now without legal curtailment and oversight?
What could be more fascistic than a government capable and willing to select and kill human targets without public legal justification.
Wake up and smell the sulfur because this is an important aspect of our societal spiral downward towards Dante's inferno.
Almost beyond belief really. A really ugly cycle we will be forced to live through.
