Fukushima Blackout June 7

Today there is essentially NO new news on Fukushima developments. NHK, Kyodo, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, etc. seem to have nothing new to say. They are simply re-discovering the extent and severity of the March’s multiple, uncontained melt-downs.

Why is that?

I think the answer is clear. The situation at the plants is unstable, precarious even. The melted cores in 1-3 are too hot to entomb. Building #4 is listing and could collapse in strong winds or another earthquake. The world is waiting to see whether the scenario portrayed in the film China Syndrome is remotely possible. (See Lucas Whitefield Dixson for details of the state of the cores http://news.lucaswhitefieldhixson.com/ )

Meanwhile, the reports being slowly dripped out about radiation contamination indicate that Japan’s future as an exporting nation is in severe trouble. Furthermore, Japan’s capacity to feed itself has been grossly compromised as the ocean surrounding Japan is contaminated and the fields in northern Japan are radioactive.

Japan is the world’s 3rd largest economy. Japan’s fall will impact the global economy significantly, impacting demand for global goods and impacting global supply chains dependent upon Japan’s electronics exports. Furthermore, Japan will require more carbon inputs given that its electricity generating capacity is down 20%. That means global oil prices will stay high even as global demand slows in the wake of the double-dip global depression we are experiencing.

The Japanese people not in denial about their country’s situation must be devastated. It seems their government, so enthralled by TEPCO, is unable to act decisively to protect the public’s welfare.

We have seen this script before. It is the one experienced by Americans in the Gulf region. BP enthralled the American government. BP and the U.S. Government lied together about the scope and severity of the Gulf disaster. They too bought science and conspired to censor and shape media. They too cared little about poisoning and poisoned populations in the disaster region.

Two of the largest economies in the world are controlled by a handful of corporations that have little interest in, or concern about, the public welfare.

I expect new news about the Japanese plant to continue to decrease unless major events occur. The plant will continue to emit radiation, poisoning Japan and the northern hemisphere, but little will be said about this ongoing massacre of life on Earth.

Individuals who develop cancer or bear children with significant disabilities will each experience their tragedies as personal events, rather than collective penance for our abdication of control to the sociopathic corporations and their enthralled governments.
