Proportion of patients diagnosed w/ colorectal cancer under age 50 rose from 10% in 2004 to 12.2% in 2015


Another type of cancer increasing in incidents among young people:

....in the U.S., the proportion of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer under the age of 50 rose from 10% in 2004 to 12.2% in 2015, according to the National Cancer Data Base.

And even more critically, 71% of young people (those under age 50) with colorectal cancer are diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease, stages three or four, according data shared by the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization.

There are many forces at work - the aggregated and transgenerational impacts of the industrial era - but I think some pollutants get more attention than others.

Some pollutants are almost invisible in public discourse - e.g., few studies examine biological effects of radionuclides on exposed children even when contamination is known by virtue of proximity to acknowledged contaminants.
 
For example, the relationship between autism and ionizing radiation has not been studied, despite the sharp INCREASE IN AUTISM INCIDENTS in CA after Fukushima.
