I realize this series of posts on Fukushima Daiichi's webcam imagery may seem tiresome to some readers. However, I've been watching the plant for 7 years and am very aware of changes in emissions patterns.
Today the plant looks drowned, especially as viewed through the cam focused on units 1 and 2:
Now:
Yesterday
Yesterday I noted that the lens has some sort of "stuff" on it but that alone does not explain the higher level of emissions that are visible on both cams and during day time hours (see my post from yesterday and screenshot of cam 4).
The weather in Fukushima presently is 82F, 42% chance of precipitation, with 84% humidity, which are pretty typical.
Yesterday the Wall Street Journal ran an article in their print edition titled, "New Challenge to 'Abenomics' Rises in Japan" (8/22/2018 p. A9) that begins with the following text:
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's policies have benefited the titans of business with whom he likes to play golf but have left millions of people behind, said a former defense minister [Shigeru Ishiba] who is making a long-shot bid to lead the ruling party. This sense that many of today's leaders are detached from the needs of "the people" because of their close alliances with "the titans of business" is not restricted to Japan.
Our time for fixing catastrophic risks, such as those posed by Fukushima Daiichi, is limited and elapsing.
As Rome burned and as the Titanic sank, the majority of elites were distracted by their privilege until they too went down with their wrecked domains....

Why bother with an underground bunker? USA tests Upgraded ‘Earth-Penetrating’ Nuclear Bomb
Posted by Christina MacPherson
US Air Force Tests Upgraded ‘Earth-Penetrating’ Nuclear Bomb, Sputniik News, 24.08.2018 The US Air Force sent out a B-2 stealth bomber to deploy an upgraded B61-12 nuclear bomb recently in an effort to review the weapon’s accuracy and ability to carry out its various attack options.
According to Warrior Maven, the latest upgrades enable the nuclear bomb to be able to carry out “earth-penetrating attacks, low-yield strikes, high-yield attacks, above surface detonation and bunker-buster options,” giving the Air Force a five-in-one kind of deal.
“The main advantage of the B61-12 is that it packs all the gravity bomb capabilities against all the targeting scenarios into one bomb,” Hans Kristensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project, told the website. “That spans from very low-yield tactical ‘clean’ use with low fallout to more dirty attacks against underground targets.”
“A nuclear weapon that detonates after penetrating the earth more efficiently transmits its explosive energy to the ground, thus is more effective at destroying deeply buried targets for a given nuclear yield. A detonation above ground, in contrast, results in a larger fraction of the explosive energy bouncing off the surface,” Kristensen added, noting that the B-2 bomber presently carries nuclear bombs of the models B61-7, B61-11 and B83-1.
However, the B61-12 nuclear bomb won’t be the only piece of military equipment to receive a facelift. The B-2 bomber, first introduced in the 1980s, is expected to see upgrades to its Defensive Management System, hardware used to help the bomber recognize and deter enemy air defenses, Warrior Maven reported. The US Air Force operates an estimated 20 B-2 bombers. Its next-generation competition is the B-21 Raider.
The latest test, conducted at an undisclosed area, follows news in late June that the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the US Air Force tested two B61-12 bombs on June 9 at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada……..
The life extension program is part of a joint effort to preserve the critical elements of the US nuclear triad, a three-pronged military structure consisting of land-launched missiles, nuclear missile-armed submarines and strategic aircraft with nuclear bombs and missiles. ……https://sputniknews.com/military/201808241067454740-earth-penetrating-nuclear-bomb-tested/

Thyroid is tweaking today. This rarely happens anymore, it used to be constant. It's too soon after this latest Fuku emissions event, but maybe something had already been going on. Or it could be local from a nuclear plant in the area.

Relative Biological Effectiveness of Tritium for Induction of Myeloid Leukemia in CBA/H Mice

To help resolve uncertainties as to the most appropriate weighting factor for tritium β rays, a large experiment was carried out to measure the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of tritiated water compared to X rays for the induction of myeloid leukemia in male mice of the CBA/H strain. The study was designed to estimate the lifetime incidence of myeloid leukemia in seven groups of about 750 mice each; radiation exposures were approximately 0, 1, 2 and 3 Gy both for tritiated water and for X rays. The lifetime incidence of leukemia in these mice increased from 0.13% in the control group to 6-8% in groups exposed to higher radiation doses. The results were fitted to various equations relating leukemia incidence to radiation dose, using both the raw data and data corrected for cumulative mouse-days at risk. The calculated RBE values for tritium β rays compared to X rays ranged from 1.0 ± 0.5 to 1.3 ± 0.3. A best estimate of the RBE for this experiment was about 1.2 ± 0.3. A value of 1 would thus appear to be more appropriate than a of 2 for tritium β rays.

While Trump Sweats, the West Burns

Right now, much of the west is affected by wildfires.
An unlucky minority will have to evacuate their homes, and some will lose their homes altogether — or even their lives. But for millions more across the west, “smoke season” is a real thing.
Vast swaths of the west can be covered in smoke for extended periods, and inhaling the fine particles in the smoke is deleterious to one’s health.
This year, fires resulted in the closing ofYosemite National Park and part ofGlacier National Park. The Ferguson Fire in Yosemite is just one of many recent fires within the park, including the enormous Rim Fire in 2013, the fifth largest fire in California history.
As a Californian, fires are a regular part of life.
The Cedar Fire of 2003 in San Diego was so massive that the smoke interfered with air traffic. I canceled a backpacking trip in 2015 due to the Rough Fire in King’s Canyon National Park.
I went on a road trip that summer and the sky was hazy with smoke in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado. I was told the smoke came from fires in Washington.
In 2016, I spent a few weeks staying with a friend in rural San Diego County. I loved the area, and thought I might like to live there. Then, I thought, “This place looks like it could go up in smoke.” Within the month, it did. The aptly named Border Fire broke out in Campo, and my friend had to evacuate.
All of that is nothing compared to what a friend went through last summer in Montana. She and her family (including a toddler) were cooped up in their home for ages, trying to avoid inhaling the smoke. She had to install air filters to attempt to keep at least the indoor air clean.
The increase in wildfires is linked to the climate crisis.
The equation is simple. When it’s hotter outside, water evaporates faster, so the “fuel” (trees, vegetation) is drier and more flammable.
Well said Teri
DeleteGreat blog post! People say their is ash on their windows in california, washington alaska. So many fires. Looks like fires or something in japan. Many earthquakes there too.

ReplyDeleteRobert Sanders (2018, July 30). DNA repair after CRISPR cutting not at all what people thought. University of California Berkeley. Available,http://news.berkeley.edu/2018/07/30/dna-repair-after-crispr-cutting-not-at-all-what-people-thought/
The article specifically addresses the challenge encountered by geneticists when trying to edit DNA using CRISPR-Cas9.
It seems that the problem lies in cellular repair processes.
CRISPR technology relies on human cellular repair processes after CRISPR editing.
It turns out that fixing double-strand DNA breaks is more complicated than researchers anticipated. (Surprise, surprise).
MAJIA ENDS THE ARTICLE WITH WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONs
What are the implications?
First, the clear implication of this research is that double-strand DNA repair is not equally possible for all cells.
Second, homologous DNA repair is compromised if the genes involved in sequencing the proteins involved are themselves damaged.
Third, these findings throw another wrench into the HORMESIS idea that the body is infinitely resilient in its DNA repair mechanisms.
Not all double-strand DNA can be repaired.
Hormesis cannot apply to cells that lack access to these genes
BIOCHEMICAL RXNS OF DNA REPAIR
Hormesis implies rna and dna polymerase enzymes, work perfectly in unzipping dna molecules and zipping them back together AND IN REPAIRING DAMAGED DNA.
Do not get me wrong. Cells have dna repair mechanisms but, that is not hormesis. And those dna repair-mechanisms efficiency ARE not enhanced by mutagen exposure.
Hormesis Implies perfection , when dna repair is done in cells. It implies dna repair is improved by exposure to mutagens. Hormesis implies that exposure to a mutagen somehow magically decreases the probabiility of biochemical dna repair rxns enzyme reactions going bad in the future.
Any chemist, knows how fragile enzyme reactions and dna repair rxns are in the body. Hormesis is Such a crock of shit

ReplyDeleteRare M5 quake in NW Colorado. It is near a nuclear waste site. Also now a very deep M7 in Peru. The whole planetary plate is shaking now. Grand Solar Minimum? West Coast in danger now.
ReplyDeleteEarthquakes a big deal. Global warming will get worse because the seas are dying, multiple greenhouse gasses are growing exponentially, radionuclide poluution is fundamentally changing the chemistry of the oceans and atmosphere of the planet. We dump quadrillions of radionuclides containing gasses the into atmosphere, yearly. Billions of tons of chemical chit into to the oceans and waterways weekly. The tipping point was last week. Runawy temperatures in effect. Maybe some geochemical processes chaning as well. It is funny that a level 5 hurricane is barreling in by cuba and it is not on tje news. Notice how this kinda news repoting changed simce fascist Trumpo/fuko the clown appointed a nonscientist to head the NOAA. We are now under the grips of a totalitarian corporatist state. Probly quite similar to japan where, abe instructed thigs to help rig his last election
ReplyDeleteTypically when the sun enters a Grand Solar Minimum we get global cooling. Recent ones have been given names like the Maunder Minimum (1645 to 1715) or the Wolf Minimum (1280 to 1350. We are now entering Grand Minimum according not only to some climatologists but also astrophysicists. You can check this out by even using Wikipedia with-- some care.

1. PROTRUMP The worst nuclearist monster in history. Is proAbe. Abe is another nuclearist Criminal and monster who used thugs in his last election to win. Abe is continuing with the olympics. He is shipping radioactive food all over the world. Abe continues to open the most dangerous nuclear plants, in the the most earthquake prone country on the planet. Trump wholeheartedly supports Abe.
2. RABID Climate-denial
As hurricanes, rising sea levels, earhquakes combine to insure another fukushima earthquake soon, they say it is ok to keep a few reactors open, make more nuclear waste, make more nuclear weapons, and haul deadly nuclear waste anywhere. on roads, railways, in jets. The TRUMP/KOCH/NUCLEAR APOLOGISTS SAY IT IS OK TO PUT NUCLEAR WASTE anywhere from here to kingdom come.
3. THEY ARE PRONUCLEAR WEAPON APOLOGISTS; THEY ARE AFTER ALL protump apologists. They think the Enemies, that lurk everywhere, should be obliterated with nuclear explosions.
4. IT IS OK TO HAVE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS OPEN Even in Japan. Its Ok to deragulate supervIsion of old dangerous nuclear reactors, cause Trump says so. MAYBE THEY MIGHT CLOSE later the Nuclear Apologists say. THEY NEVER DO CLEAN UP NUCLEAR WASTE BECAUSE, IT WOULD CAUSE CERTAIN PEOPLE TO LOSE MONEY. IF THEY DID, NO ONE WOULD CLEAN UP THE MESS BECAUSE IT IS SO UNPROFITABLE. TRUMP DOES NOT BELIEVE THE MESSES HAVE TO BE CLEANED UP
The nuclear appologists, are pronuclear weapon-nuclear, appologists-protrump, devils..
They constantly gaslight the public with ever-changing conspiracy and ever-changing , alternative reality narratives.
