The New York Times and Washington Post this week published reports of a private meeting last month between eight major technology and social media corporations and the US intelligence agencies, to discuss their censorship operations in the lead-up to the November 2018 mid-term elections.
The meeting was convened at Facebook’s Menlo Park, California, headquarters on May 23, and was attended by representatives from Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Snap, Twitter and Oath, which owns Yahoo and the telecommunications network Verizon, along with agents from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.
The Post described the meeting, organized at the request of Facebook, as a “new overture by the technology industry to develop closer ties to law enforcement.” Both articles were based on anonymous statements by individuals who attended. One attendee told the Post that the conversation was a “back-and-forth, with both sides talking about how they were thinking about the problem and how we were looking for opportunities to work together.”
The meeting is yet another testament to the increasing integration of the technology giants with the US military/intelligence apparatus. These companies, which provide a growing share of the technical infrastructure for the repressive apparatus of the state, increasingly see the censorship of left-wing, anti-war, and progressive viewpoints as an integral part of their business strategy.
Amazon, Microsoft and Google are competing to secure control over a $10 billion project to host the Pentagon’s Cloud infrastructure, a position that will literally mean hosting the communications between military units engaged in battle. Employees at the three companies have also written letters in recent months denouncing their provision of artificial intelligence technology to improve drone targeting (Google), facial recognition of civilians by police agencies (Amazon), and assisting in the operations of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Microsoft).
The Times and the Post are the main media voices for the campaign by the Democratic Party and intelligence agencies for Internet censorship, under the guise of opposing the spread of “misinformation” by the Russian government. This McCarthyite campaign is based on the totally unsubstantiated allegation that Russian “fake news” led to popular disillusionment with Hillary Clinton in the 2016 vote, and the subsequent election of Donald Trump. The newspapers’ synchronized reports therefore present last month’s meeting as aimed at preventing Russian interference in the mid-term elections

After signing a bill and testing out a few guns at a shooting range Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott held up his bullet-riddled target sheet and joked, "I'm gonna carry this around in case I see any reporters."

Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday visited a shooting range to sign a bill into law that significantly reduces the cost to get a license to carry a handgun, making Texas one of the states with the lowest fee in the nation.
"The right to bear arms is something that is synonymous with the state of Texas. We are proud to expand the right to bear arms by lowering the cost of what you have to pay in order to get a license to carry," Abbott said. "Texans' ability to bear arms is going to be even bolder today than it's ever been before."
The law, Senate Bill 16, reduces the first-time fee for a license to carry from $140 to $40 and the renewal fee from $70 to $40. A license to carry permit is valid in Texas for five years. The new fee will go into effect on Sept. 1.
Following the bill signing, Abbott tested out a few guns at an upstairs shooting range.

With the usual ballyhoo, the White House said on May 11 that President Donald Trump would announce his long-delayed plans to reduce the costs of prescription drugs. When Trump began speaking at 2:08 p.m., stock prices on Standard & Poor’s pharmaceutical sector dropped. By the time he finished speaking, the sector was soaring.
Big Pharma was very happy with Trump’s speech. It contained nothing that will threaten its enormous profits nor anything that will slow down relentless price increases. As president-elect, Trump accused drug companies of“getting away with murder.” As president, Trump has become an accessory to that murder.
It was yet another broken populist campaign promise, joining “great health care,” putting coal miners back to work, a trillion-dollar infrastructure plan and more. Trump has kept his promise to crack down on immigrants and move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, but his economic populism has proved to be a mirage.
Of course that doesn’t mean he won’t try to fool people into thinking otherwise: “Everyone involved in the broken system — the drugmakers, insurance companies, distributors, pharmacy benefit managers and many others — contribute to the problem,” Trump said. “Government has also been part of the problem because previous leaders turned a blind eye to this incredible abuse.”
All of that is true, but the one key to dealing with the problem is to recognize that everything stems from the upfront price that drugmakers charge . Same drugs that cost $100 or 1000 dollars cost 10 or 20 dollars in canada or mexico

The fascists are also making it impossible for most people to see a doctor if they are poor, elderly, have preexisting conditions without putting up 300 dollars because the aca and provsions demanding that people that have existing conditions or disabilities have the right to healthcare and health insurance. ReplyDeleteAnother group of rather neglected migrant children are those who travel from the womb to the external world. Some are killed before they get out and others afterwards. But these babies are certainly human and deserve something better. No detention for them, but rather a painful end. I wonder why these children attract so little attention from the liberals and Democrats? Will it be too long before they can vote? Too costly to bring them along to 18? For some the journey from conception is similar to those children traveling from Central America to the US border. The unwanted must feel tortured by the owner of the womb. Once a baby is viable outside the mother's womb it seems evident that aborting the child is a violation of this Amendment. In the 1860's the composers of this Amendment were not using the term born in a technical sense necessarily and so saying the infant is not yet born is being precise about something that is itself not intended as a medical term. Thus late term abortions are slyly evading the law and committing a crime. This should be obvious to all but the intellectually encumbered. In effect like the black slaves and the native Americans once upon a time this group of people are still experiencing tyranny! And just like slaves and Indians once were they are denied humanhood.
