Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), operator of the disaster-stricken Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant, refused in 2002 to calculate the potential effects of tsunami in case of an earthquake off Fukushima Prefecture when a now-defunct nuclear watchdog told the utility to conduct an evaluation, the Mainichi Shimbun has learned.
A former safety screening division official of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) told the Mainichi Shimbun on Jan. 29 that TEPCO did not accept the agency's request even though the latter tried to convince the utility after the government released a long-term assessment report that a major earthquake could hit off the Pacific coast including areas off Fukushima Prefecture, possibly triggering massive tsunami. This is the first time that exchanges between the then nuclear agency and TEPCO following the release of the government report have come to light.

Their expiration dates. Ready to meltdown, blow-up, have large fuel pool fires. When it happens , contamination will spread wide and far , as it has with Fukushima. Next hurricane season, any technical glitch. Our government, does no better in assessing or letting the public know of the dangers from natural distasters, and nuclear reactors, than the japanese have.
A great deal of the water in America, is barely potable. Most of the people in those areas drink bottle water, from toxic plastic bottles, that are made in the areas they live, are filled with water from California. Maybe its distilled. Maybe it is not.
ReplyDeleteBarely potable drinkin water, from the faucet, is especially true in places like New Jersey, Texas, and Louisiana, where there are massive clusters of oil refineries, and chemical plants.
It is ironic, that the plants where the bottles, for the bottle water are made in these same places, with so many oil refineries, and chemical plants.
Many of those areas have had their water tables relentlessly perforated by oil fracking, and drilling as well.
In areas low-lying areas at sea- level, there are many landfills, ther are huge manmade mountains od garbage. They rise 100 feet above the ground . Some are 5 miles across. They are manmade hills and small mountains, of grabage and poison.
Think of all the radioactive poison from americium smoke detectors, and their like. Think of all the chemical poison that seeps from these plastic, poison, and radioactive landfills into the ground, and into aquifers. Mountains of poison, that seep into the oil well-perforated, and industrial poisoned water table aquifers, in so many parts of America.
There are too many parts of America, where water tables, and aquifers are connected, so the pollution is omnipresent, for hunderds of miles.
The worst radiation, in our water, in America is radium from car exhuasts and coal-burning, air pollution. Radium that settles into the ground, and flows into our water tables. 300 million americans drink highly radioactive and toxic water, when they are not drinking the Nestles-type, bottled water, that contributes to the problem.

No remedians for hundreds of thousands, of tons of nuclear waste. No investment in cheap, highly efficient, hi tech renewable energy, at a time when we are wallowing in a massive radioactive and chemical sewer, that is on the verge of collapse. When the reactors start blowing, the fuel-pools start burning, there will be no turning backs. There is now a greater risk, than the proscripted major nuclear accident, every 5 to 10 years. That is because there are so many reactors, running past their expiration dates.
