Russiaphobia Rhetoric

Reuters is reporting that Russia is challenging US actions perceived as threatening its national security.

When you read the article its pretty plain to see why Russia might be concerned by US actions.

As a neutral observer its clear to me that the Russiaphobia has been on a sharp tick upward:
Russia says U.S. actions threaten its national security. October 9, 2016. Reuters. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-usa-idUSKCN1290DP

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov ... complained that NATO had been steadily moving military infrastructure closer to Russia's borders and lashed out at Western sanctions imposed over Moscow's role in the Ukraine crisis.

He also said he had heard that some policy makers in Washington were suggesting that President Barack Obama sanction the carpet bombing of the Syrian government's military air fields to ground its air force.

"This is a very dangerous game given that Russia, being in Syria at the invitation of the legitimate government of this country and having two bases there, has got air defense systems there to protect its assets," said Lavrov.
So Russia is complaining that the US and allies are putting weapons close to its borders and bombing its allies.

This is not the first time this year Russia has raised alarms about western belligerence. In July Mikhail Gorbachev warned that NATO was escalating war:

Will Worley and Matt Payton. July 9, 2016. Mikhail Gorbachev says Nato is escalating Cold War with Russia 'into a hot one'. The Independent. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/nato-chief-russia-soviet-mikhail-gorbachev-ukraine-eastern-europe-tensions-jens-stoltenberg-unified-a7128521.html

Former Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev has accused Nato of preparing for "offensive operations" against Russia.

As the Western alliance held a summit in Warsaw, Poland, Mr Gorbachev criticised Nato’s decision to deploy 4,000 more international troops in Eastern Europe.

Tensions have been mounting between Russia and Nato member states, in particular the US, as diplomatic spats and military excercises have increased in frequency.

Mr Gorbachev, the eighth and last leader of the Soviet Union, said: “Nato has begun preparations for escalating from the Cold War into a hot one.

“All the rhetoric in Warsaw just yells of a desire almost to declare war on Russia. They only talk about defence, but actually they are preparing for offensive operations.”
I still don't understand how Obama could have received a peace prize given the prioritization of the war industry during his presidency:
William D. Hartung (2016, July 26). The Obama Administration Has Brokered More Weapons Sales Than Any Other Administration Since World War II. The Nation, https://www.thenation.com/article/the-obama-administration-has-sold-more-weapons-than-any-other-administration-since-world-war-ii/

... American firms dominate a global [arms] market worth more than $70 billion a year...

According to the latest figures available from the Congressional Research Service, the United States was credited with more than half the value of all global arms transfer agreements in 2014, the most recent year for which full statistics are available.

No one wins World War III so we go there? Sustainable Peace is the ONLY path forward.

  2. Obama won the peace prize for not being George w bush. Then he gave them the finger. Obama made me realize there is no democracy in america. Politics are controlled by two rightwing neoliberal neoconservative parties.

  4. I'm pretty sure Isis is funded partially by the us. Like the mujadeen in Afghanistan that led to the Taliban. Russia does not want Assad to fall in syria. Isis does.
Donald trump is saying he wants to commit 30 thousand troops to fight isis in Syria. Just like Hillary does.
There sure are a lot of brainwashed people or political shill people pumping some antinuclear sites these days. Tragic because, like majia says there has to be some leadership for peace or there might be ww3

  5. Neither Hillary or trump have committed to ending nuclear power or nuclear weapons buildups. Nuclear war is unwinnable and nuclear power is reaching a point of no return

  7. Majia, of course I agree about sustainable peace, but the obvious question is how do we get there? Clearly, the current politicians are not going that way at all. So, if we live in democratic countries, why can't "we" choose people who will practice peace diplomacy on our behalf? It's my understanding, though I am no great expert, that (West) Germany did practice this after WWII and that was how they were able to rid themselves of the "enemy state status" under the UN Charter. This is what Japan should have been doing over the last 70 years, but it hasn't. Why not? Very simply, because it has never been allowed to do so by the US, which effectively tells Japan what to do. It's the enemy state status in the UN Charter that makes it so, and thus the US has no interest in allowing Japan to practice peace diplomacy. I.e. the US has no interest in seeing a world where the international community is based on a bedrock of solid and mutual peace diplomacy, which could possible bring about an assured and sustainable peace. It seems to me that this is also one reason why the US people are having to out up with this obscene farce of a presidential election that is now ongoing.Do you see why? The people who are "really" running the show are saying, see? we can make you do anything we want! You will all quite happily die in meaningless wars if we just ask you the right way...

  9. Majia, I would also like to believe that change is possible. How could it be done? Literally, the 99% have to stand up and say, "We've had enough. We don't want anymore of this and we want to change the way society works and the way states interact by electing enlightened leaders who will implement this on our behalf but under our strict supervision. What do you think? Would that do it? (Would the "elite" allow it to happen?) I think it has a good chance. But how do we get the 99% to do that? Or maybe the "critical mass" is "only" about 20% of the population. Can that be done? There might be a way of doing it in the present "environment", but I haven't thought of it yet.

    1. A lot of the whole society isn`t able
to stand up for different reasons.
Children, old and ill people, and of course,
the majority of voters are thoroughly desinformed or bad-educated is terms
      of "who rules" the world.
That is the work of the media.
The media itself is owned by the invisibles,
      as the banks are.
Coming to the actual war-scheme of
      the united states of terror.
Half of the troops are official murderers,
half of it is outsourced to unofficial murderers.
Now both of them heave a price,
funnywise the latter are earning the double.
Wars and soldiers always have a price.
As usual in the economy who pays,
      orders and rules.
"Tell the truth ,shame the devil."

    2. Yes the disinformation is a significant part of the problem. The alternative media have called into question mainstream news media frames but there is now a concerted campaign to stigmatize alternative media for calling into question sacred ground such as GMOs and vaccines.

      The crowd is shepherded.

  10. Social justice media has called into question pharmaceutical company malfeasance, nuclear power dangers, pesticide travesties, environmental devastation, and imperial war designs with genocidal, corporate-sanctioned war policies into question since before Nixon.

I find it odd that there are so many conservatives who went along with the afformentioned crimes, are now recognizing the crimes of GMOs and many vaccines.

So called conservatives are focused on vaccines and GMOs. They pay limited attention to the genocides, the nuclear security state, or the grave environmental risks, that are now monumental.

Most of them decry the culmination in corporate media ownership of places like fox news and NPR, yet they eat eat it up.
Both sides of the neoliberal neoconservative coin are indistinguishable in many ways.

Many alternative medias have their own spins that seem twisted and manipulative.
