Webcam watchers have puzzled over these sudden steam releases for years now. Although we don't know the source, they do coincide with elevated radiation monitoring readings downwind in Japan and North America. They may derive from water or chemical injections by TEPCO or, perhaps, fission events in melted nuclear fuel, either in the buildings or beneath them.
