New York Times MISSES the Point on Organics

The New York Times misses the main reason people choose organic meat and produce in this article:

Stanford Scientists Cast Doubt on Advantages of Organic Meat and Produce by Kenneth Change Sep 3, 2012
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/04/science/earth/study-questions-advantages-of-organic-meat-and-produce.html?_r=1&nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20120904

[Excerpted]
Stanford scientists have weighed in on the “maybe not” side of the debate after an extensive examination of four decades of research comparing organic and conventional foods.

They concluded that fruits and vegetables labeled organic were, on average, no more nutritious than their conventional counterparts, which tend to be far less expensive. Nor were they any less likely to be contaminated by dangerous bacteria like E. coli.
The researchers also found no obvious health advantages to organic meats.

Conventional fruits and vegetables did have more pesticide residue, but the levels were almost always under the allowed safety limits, the scientists said. The Environmental Protection Agency sets the limits at levels that it says do not harm humans....

MAJIA HERE: The obvious point that the NYT so clearly misses is that AMERICANS DO NOT TRUST THE EPA AND FDA to protect us from dangerous PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES, AND FUNGICIDES.

Furthermore, many Americans strongly doubt that genetically modified food is safe, especially food modified to produce Bt and to withstand the dangerous herbicide Round-Up.

I have posted many, many times on scientific research calling into question the safety of Bt and Round-Up for mammals.

The report here addresses malformations in animal embryos caused by much lower doses of round-up than used to spray crops http://www.scribd.com/doc/57277946/RoundupandBirthDefectsv5

A couple of paragraphs in the last third of the New York Times article do address organic consumers' concerns about pesticides in non-organic foods, but the article fails to explicate any specific dangers.

There are many. Please see resources and previous blog posts below.

Unfortunately, organics are now under assault as well: The Organic Watergate By Cornucopia Institute | Press Release May 19 2012 http://readersupportednews.org/news-section2/312-16/11510-the-organic-watergate
