WSJ: "First Criminal Case in Spill"

April 25, 2011 A3 by Tom Fowler

Byline reads: "Engineer accused of deleting texts on flow rate, which can determine possible fines"

Excerpt: "The government said the deleted texts included estimates of how much oil was gushing into the Gulf of Mexico as BP tried to stem the flow, including some estimates that were significantly higher than BP was publicly acknowledging at the time.

Investigators have long been looking into whether BP intentionally withheld or played down the size of the spill..."

Majia here: The article explains that the size of the spill is important because it impacts criminal fines under the US Clean Water Act, which is determined on the number of barrels spilled.

The article also explains that while BP was claiming a mere 5,000 barrels a day, the sleazy Mr Mix wrote that there was over 15,000 barrels of flow rate.

Here is an important new report on state of the gulf:

  1. It is extremely clear by watching the underwater videos that the robots were aggressively spraying the poisonous dispersant on the outflow.

    What a farce.
