The area around Fukushima Daiichi unit 1 was looking pretty steamy recently, as illustrated in this screenshot from 2/6/2019:
Later that same day I saw TEPCO lower a device into unit 1, as seen in the screenshot below. I've seen TEPCO lower devices such as this one into this unit many times and the result is consistently lower emissions afterwards. I don't know if the device is injecting water or nitrogen:
Today, the unit 1 area looks improved. So, unit 1 still must be pretty hot. Thanks TEPCO for reducing atmospheric emissions. Please diligently protect workers battling the ongoing problem of water contamination.
