"Ultrasonic Noise Gets New Scrutiny" WSJ

Remember the US embassy staff who suffered sustained brain damage while in Cuba? Cuba denied involvement.

Here is an account of what happened that should raise eyebrows

Robert Lee Hotz (2018, June 16). Can Ultrasonic Noise Make You Sick? The Wall Street Journal, http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/print/WSJ_-A011-20180618.pdf

The article is worth reading because it describes both the ubiquity of ultrasonic noise in our environment and potential neurological effects. Yikes. For example, the article notes that advertisers "embed ultrasonic tones into commercials to track consumer behavior"  - no wonder the noise of commercials drives me crazy!

Humans will probably drive themselves into extinction even if global climate change doesn't deplete food supplies.

What stupidity to assume our invulnerability.

    1. The Mass Psychology of Fascism by Wilhelm Reich. It is what is happening. He wrote it in 1933, and most of the book tries to answer the question why democracies continually elect psychopaths to rule them. I think you would really like it.

    2. You know Trump is a narcissist-- a malignant narcissist. Every psychopath is also a narcissist and it's clear that Trump is also a psychopath. You probably knew that too.
The question is, how did a malignant narcissist psychopath become president-- not just president but a horrific monster who is intentionally destroying the protections that have made Americans and America save from the predations of the worst corporations and his fellow billionaire psychopaths? And what should we do about it.

It's a long story. Before civilization, humans evolved, over at least seven million years, to live in small hunter-gather bands where they were bottom-up beings-- empathic, kind, cooperative, sharing, interdependent, living with bottom-up connection consciousness-- awareness of how decisions and actions affected all the people around them-- and the natural ecosystems they depended upon. Anyone who tried to take more than their share of the bands resources would be seen as insane, or would banished or killed. for example, one expert on psychopaths told me that in the far north, a psychopath living amongst the indigenous peoples would be put on an chunk of ice and pushed off into the ocean to float away.

The creeping opening of humanity to vulnerability to the depredations of narcissists and psychopaths started with the onset of civilization, when food surpluses and possession of domesticated animals led to the creation of police and soldiers to protect them. That led to hierarchy, centralization, authoritarianism and domination. Narcissists and psychopaths began to flourish because there was no band of people to stop them.

    3. Most of history (as opposed to prehistory)has been, until the past 3040 years, the top-down history of generals and rulers, i.e., despots, monarchs and worse. Civilization, while bringing some wonderful good advances came with a high price-- slavery, serfdom, feudalism, privatization of the commons and brutal exploitation of the people at the bottom.

The narcissistic, top-down ideas of privatization and exploitation have been framed and celebrated by the right as aspects of "liberty" and individualism, as described by Ayn Rand. These narcissistic behaviors have become values that are supported and encouraged by religious and political leaders

Today, some businesses actually seek out psychopaths as employees. That gives them increasing access to wealth and power. Trump is a born-on-third-base child of wealth. These people are, I believe more at risk for developing the characteristics of psychopaths-- particularly callousness, hard-heartedness, absence of empathy, propensity towards lying and disrespecting laws and morals. Of course, Donald Trump fits this profile perfectly.

His massive scale child abuse is a clear sign of his having all the signs-- callousness, hard-heartedness, absence of empathy, propensity towards lying and disrespecting laws and morals. Worse, his deranged behavior is contagious, as evidenced by the many supporters and flunkies who defend this depraved policy. Even worse, ripping away children from their loving parents will permanently traumatize them and make them, the victims more at risk of becoming narcissists and psychopaths themselves. We have to take serious, aggressive action.

I've written many articles, in my article series, Psychopaths, Sociopaths and Narcissists, on the challenge narcissists and psychopaths present to a decent society. Trump and his enablers have made my message even more urgent. We need to develop a science and culture that reject the "values," really, pathological behaviors and thinking, as the vile, evil things they are. People who engage in such behaviors, people with strong narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies and characteristics should be identified, just as sexual predators are. This is not bigotry, not separating out any particular religion, race, or culture. This is what is done with sexual predators and carriers of highly contagious diseases.

We need to deal with the reality that these people are dangerous, malignant, destructive people. At one level, they are predators who take life savings from innocent victims who love them. But they are also the same people who gave us the multi-trillion dollar economic collapse of 2008, and the people who profit from war and drugs-- addictive and pharmaceutical.

These are the people who set examples of the worse kind, so we see massive increases in hate, bigotry, intolerance and discrimination. We need to identify them and protect the whole, healthy people who are not narcissists and psychopaths. This should be a conversation that is on the table. It will not be easy. There are billionaire narcissists and psychopaths who will fight it and they will fight dirty, attacking the messengers, attacking the idea. But we've gone far too long without doing this necessary work.

    4. There have been many tyranny tests under the monstrous orange-tinted white nationalist Twitter clown Donald Trump. Where to begin:

+ The opening day trip to CIA headquarters, where he half-jokingly rambled about the US going back to Iraq to “get the oil”?

+ The repeated attempts to repeal even Obama’s inadequate health insurance measure and thereby remove tens of millions of U.S. citizens from health coverage?

+ The insane claim to have won the popular vote but for the votes of illegal immigrants?

+ The idiotic call for a southern border wall combined with the asinine call for Mexico to “pay for it”?

+ The noxious description of Mexican and other Central American immigrants and asylum-seekers as rapists and murderers?

+ The praise and dog-whistling cover he offered to murderous fascist racists in Charlottesville in the summer of 2017?

+ The giant tax cut that the racist real estate mogul trailblazed for the already obscenely super-opulent Few last Christmas season – a socioeconomic atrocity in a nation where the top 10thof the upper 1 percent already owned as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent?

+ The advance pardon that the Tangerine Satan offered to the sickening racist and nativist tent-camp murderer Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona last year?

+ The racist shaming of federal judges who happen not to rule his way?

+ The repeated transparent attempts to place himself above the rule of law?

+ The open assault on basic environmental protections and the eco-exterminist determination to advance the extraction and burning of every last fossil fuel in U.S. reach?

+ The clear and transparent affection he shows for blood-drenched authoritarians the world over?

+ The snap approvals of the planet-cooking Dakota Access and Keystone XL pipelines?

+ The open embrace of Saudi Arabia’s practically genocidal war on Yemen?

+ The repeated ugly embrace of the National Rifle Association after yet another and then another mass shooting that amounts to homeland terrorism sponsored by the proto-fascistic and white supremacist gun lobby?

+ The open advance of prison privatization and mass incarceration combined with clear disinterest in curbing the ongoing epidemic of racist police shootings?

      That’s just a short list.

What would it take to send millions of U.S.-Americans into the streets to confront the total evil of “their” government in the age of Trump? How about this: “Dragging young children kicking and crying and screaming from their parents, separating those children from their parents indefinitely, locking those children up in cages (‘dog kennels’) like animals, and subjecting them to the predators of the American police state”? Would that be enough? Could that do the trick?

    5. The fascism is now seen after trumpo started putting children in cages in texas so his henchman contractors like erik prnce and other ice contractors and get rich off of the blood money. It has always been known that there were child traffikers in arizona that captured childrenen at the border or brought them in from cenral america and, kept them in cages to be sold. Now we see quite clearly, what trump is really all about.

    6. Really interesting discussion of fascism.

I do wonder whether there is a romanticization of the human condition prior to civilization, although I agree entirely that civilization enabled and exacerbated psychopathic/sociopathic behavior, particularly when strategically deployed.

Here is the question: What is to be done?

Violence in any form will not work and will have the effect of reinforcing precisely the psych/sociopathic contagion.

I do believe that in the street protests have significant impacts but they MUST be non-violent.

    7. Look at china: A totalitarian country where Every truckdriver in china went on strike in recently. The totalitarian government did not crackdon on them. The did the exact opposite. Their demands are being met,
efficently and pretty thuroughly because, they have a dynamic economy and some hope.

Things are so ugly, amoral  and brutal in america now, a man like trump may be likely to call out the troops and call for a crackdown.  His ugly supporter would cheer it on

America is consumed by the stranglehold of the bogus tech crapo social platforms.  By the gaslighting mind warped self indulgence and twitter trolls. That is even though every thing around us. Everything is turning into shit and falling apart.

Things do not look well.  This country is held under a very tight vice group of terror and insanity right now and most people are too stupid and pretzle brainwashed to get it. There are multiple prongs to a few multifaceted propaganda machines , controled by even fewer puppetmaster.

There is emerging, the very serious and real threat of a  machine of terror now and yet, people are not stirring to the bloody realities and horros of this threat, in many real ways.

I do not hold any illusions about the motives of the fascists , after what happened this week. I could see it coming when we were all deluded into thinking trump was anything other than a totalitarian psychopath.
Concentration camps for children. Extremists calling for rightwing deat squads to kill jornalists. Rightwing fascists, jingoists and nazis, calling for rallys and right-wing death squads to kill young people. To kill people on a much grander scale than chrlottesville. If that happened it might be an ignition point.

      Delete
    8. Rightwing deathsquads, massacering people in homeless camps,   may not do much to start demonstrations. It is because, so many americans,  have become amoral . They have become desensitized, to most of the brutal cruelty that is emerging in america and, has been going on for some time in other parts of the empire and world.

Only the more humanistic elements of this society seem to care, at this point They are actively engaging others  about it. They seem to be getting support in a plurality, outside of what is left of mainstream white society.

Perhaps some grotequely,  racially motivated atrocity could mobilize that group to the streets and young people would follow.

During the sixties there were leaders like martin luther king to provide a template for protest and chenge. The young white people, had a very strong impetus to lay down in the cogs of the machine . To try and stop it, or slow it down. That is  because of the depredations of the senseless imperial war in vietnam.

Although america is mostly controlled by whites now, the fascists are actively and brutally repressing and suppressing a very large, and  diverse part of the population.

The fascists have to play the ugliest race and bigotry cards possible. That is because, this is a depressionary economy where 40% or more, whites included are in serious poverty.

The fascists are very good at manipulating the internet. Their blue dog coconspirators are very good at gaslighting the  more employed and comfortable in this society  with the mass media and celebrity. This may account for the amorality and desensitization of whites and and others, that are not rightly the ruling class.

The fake celebrity, the  three card monty games the blue dog media and republican play on them, takes the spotlight, off the open brutality and corrupt evil that has now overtaken us.

Many able bodied people, who could take to the streets are in a fish bowl, where they think nothing will happen to them and the system will right itself

At yhe same time, trump and the wrecking crew,  are actively destroying everyything most americans have cherished and held close to their hearts and sense of freedom killing off endengered species. Destroying all commons, public education, national parks, what is left of the middle class. They  are gutting their access to healthcare. Gutting social security. Gutting medicare. Gutting access to affordable hpusing to their children and the elderly. The elderly who are becoming homeless are bowled over by the christofascist bullshit. When people do become homeless they are neutralized. They gave trillions of tax cuts to the billionaires and corporations. They are subsidizing absolutley poisoning and polluting what is left with chemicals, coal plants , nuclear plants, trillions on crackpot spavewars and further massive military intrigues.

There is a highly effective machine rolling over america.

Many able bodied young people are very concerned about health care. Especially if they have children. Maybe they will act soon. In protest.

Many americans that are  barely keeping their head are so very brainwashed and amoral at this point. They do not care abput yemen, the nuclear buildup, losing their medicare and social security, the masees of homelessness in the streets,  the evil of child concentration camps at the border. Even if right wing death squads do start murdering journalists.

What do you think will happen majia?

  4. "What stupidity to assume our invulnerability." It is a bit of a big assumption that most people now days know what that last big word even means. But humans are really tough to say the least. No matter what happens a few will hang on; or at least given the catastrophic past they always have. I think it is too easy to see disasters around every corner. Take vaccinations for example. I think based on much looking into the matter that they are a very bad idea. But only some people are severely damaged by them. Bad food some how knocks down many but not all. There is a long list of hazards that tempt people to take a risk, and people do. The presupposition is that our current view of humans beings and the universe is more or less accurate and nearly complete.

I have a copy of the Upanishads. They read like something written recently by poets of a very high order. If their message is true then our whole Weltanschauung is way way off. We have really missed the boat. Things are utterly different than we conceive them to be. The Upanishads are beautiful; I think Keats may be right--Truth is beauty.

For some time I have noticed this desirable behavior has been especially absent from those who call themselves Democrats, liberals, progressives, lefties . . . Do you know why? I wonder what kind of parents these persons had? What kind of schools they attended? I suppose we could blame prescribed drugs from some of this?

When it comes to the President I think your imagination has run away with itself. Obama and would be Hillary come closer to being your real targets. But George W. and Bill were not very virtuous! You have no solid basis for your analysis. CNN is not reliable, is it?

What might someone say about you who did not like you? That you are a narcissist, border line personality?

Paid Pronuke shill Michael Shellenberger propaganda  is getting weirder and weirder

    Christina MacPherson

Shellenberger’s latest article is pretty strange and contradicts a lot of things I’ve heard from his local supporters.

Most unusual is that he calls nuclear waste a “blessing” – “But achieving that future will first require that we abandon our ridiculous fears and start seeing nuclear waste as the environmental blessing that it is.”

He also doesn’t want nuclear waste moved – not even from the reactor, let alone the USA. He says “Don’t Move The Waste” and “transporting cans of used nuclear waste would increase the threat to the continued operation of our life-saving nuclear plants.” This sort of contradicts the whole push of the NFCRC.

Shellenberger proposes that money set aside for storing nuclear waste for millennia should be diverted to nuclear plants, he says “It should be used to subsidize the continued operation of economically distressed nuclear plants, and subsidize the building of new ones.”

When a nuclear accident occurs we are usually told it’s because it is an old or aging plant? Well Shellenberger claims “Nuclear plants are functionally immortal. Existing plants can operate for 60, 80, 100 years or longer because everything inside the plant from the control panels to the steam generators and even the reactor vessel itself can be replaced, if needed.”

And I’ve heard local nuclear lobbyists claim new “waste eating” reactors are just around the corner, less than 10 years away, but Shellenberger says – “Sometime between 2050 and 2100, new nuclear plants — like the kind being developed by Bill Gates — will likely be able to use the so-called “waste” as fuel.”

I wonder what Shellenberger’s local supporters would think of this article? If Shellenberger gets his way, millennia lasting nuclear waste will be stored in half-inch thin, welded casks (see picture below) for centuries – by which time it would be too fragile to move.

The Forbes article is “Stop Letting Your Ridiculous Fears Of Nuclear Waste Kill The Planet” https://www.facebook.com/groups/1021186047913052/

Fukushima and the Art of Knowing

    Claire Leppold

What prompts someone to move halfway across the world, to work in a hospital near Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant? I can tell you.

It was first, because I didn’t know enough, and secondly, because I wanted to know more.

On March 11, 2011, Japan was struck by an earthquake and tsunami, which triggered a nuclear accident. Four years later and 9,000 kilometers away, it was February 2015, I was a master’s student at the University of Edinburgh, and a guest lecture was about to begin by Japanese researchers on their work in Fukushima.

I knew there had been a nuclear accident in Fukushima. I assumed this had led to dangerous radiation levels and increases in cancers. I had never entertained the thought of visiting.

What happens next could be described as a clash between what I thought I knew and reality.

The researchers gave a series of presentations. They showed us what they had found in Fukushima; there were overwhelmingly low levels of internal and external radiation in residents,1,2 and a mass screening of babies and children revealed that none had detectable levels of internal radiation contamination.3 Yet, other health problems were emerging; in contrast to low levels of radiation, an increased burden of diseases unrelated to radiation, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and more, was being found.4,5 Particular health risks associated with evacuation were highlighted,5 including evidence that immediate evacuation of the elderly from nursing homes was associated with three times higher mortality risk that non-evacuation.6 It was presented to us that radiation may not be the biggest problem for Fukushima.

I was surprised. This appeared to be, in fact, the exact opposite of what one may think about Fukushima. This surely was not the Fukushima I had heard of or visualized, and my curiosity was piqued. I talked to the I knew there had been a nuclear accident in Fukushima. I assumed this had led to dangerous radiation levels and increases in cancers. I had never entertained the thought of visiting.

This surely was not the Fukushima I had heard of or visualized, and my curiosity was piqued. I talked to the researchers and proposed an idea for further research. They, in turn, invited me to come to Fukushima to write my Master’s dissertation. I agreed.

  10. In May 2015, I first arrived in Fukushima, and began research at Minamisoma Municipal General Hospital. I wrote my master’s dissertation, graduated, and then was offered a full-time job at the hospital, which is where I am today.

There are a lot of things I could write about, that I have learned from Fukushima. Yet one of the most unexpected parts of this experience has been the confrontation between what I thought I knew, and the reality which I found. There were few things in front of me in Fukushima that matched my original expectations, and I was struck by the feeling that I had been unaware of so much. Yet I also realized that the inaccurate ideas I previously held were surprisingly common. This has led me to think more than ever about what it means to ‘know’ something, in terms of both myself and others.

Because really, how do we know things? There’s not one answer.

Talking about knowledge is difficult. Our own feelings and opinions can become what we know. Observations become what we know. The media can be said to be a source for knowledge. Science is a method of knowing.

But what happens when our knowledge does not reflect the reality of a situation? This brings me to the second biggest thing I have learned since coming to Fukushima: the damage of misinformation. Or in other words, how the ideas that I previously held and continue to see in others can be dangerous.

I never saw the actual results of misinformation until I moved to Fukushima. Now, I see them everywhere.

There is not one all-encompassing example, but we can start by talking about rumors and stigma. A particular problem here has been misinformation about radiation levels and the health implications of such levels; I have heard from many residents about the ways their lives have been affected because of the incorrect information held by others. When trying to evacuate, some were turned away from the homes of their families because radiation was misunderstood as contagious. I am told about the parents of young men, opposing their choice to marry a woman from Fukushima because it is assumed that she will not be able to bear healthy children. Some children themselves believe they will never be able to have healthy offspring in the future, because of what they have heard. There are unending examples. This is not a beautiful subject to talk about, in fact, this is a terrible subject to talk about. And it is made worse when considering that these beliefs directly contradict what is being found scientifically. Recently, the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR

  11. Before the terms narcissist, psychopath, sociopath, border line personality disorder, etc. were coined or put into common usage, what terms were used? I am by no means convinced that these words are even usually used correctly. It is clear that people want to say as bad a thing about certain people as they can. So they grab the latest bad guy/girl language to do so. And not after careful reflection but simply mechanically because their favorite sources have used these terms about one of the loathed public figures. They emulate a bollards table: the cue ball, e.g. Rahel Maddow, hits one of them and all the others bounce around the table or enter one of the six holes! I guess if you are okay about being a numbered ball you get something out of it?

    1. My Dad just called them lyin' thieves. They used to be 6% of population in US, but I'm told it's now closer to 25% because of the ponerization of society. You will know them by their actions and deeds, not their words. They rigged the game so they would always win and everyone keeps playing their game because it's the only game in town. Those looking right or left for answers are not moving forward.

The road to total tyranny is littered with tests – moments when those atop reigning oppression structures learn how far they can push the boundaries of decency without sparking potent people’s resistance. One such moment when the demented jackass and imperialist butcher George W. Bush marched down a red carpet to screw up his evil, moronic face to announce the U.S. invasion of Iraq on openly false pretexts including the shamelessly idiotic claim that Saddam Hussein’s government had been involved in the September 11, 2001 jetliner attacks and the equally bogus charge that Iraq possessed a threatening stockpile of “weapons of mass destruction.” The president and his team of Orwellian Neocon war pigs faced two days of mass protest across the country and around the world.  Still, they were not deterred from launching a brazenly criminal invasion and occupation that would kill more than a million Iraqis, displace millions more, and devastate Iraq almost beyond recognition.

They got away with it.  In a decent society, their crime would have sparked massive and prolonged civil disobedience and even revolution. They would have been prosecuted and jailed, perhaps even executed.

Six years later, the silver-tonged neoliberal Barack Obama would audaciously betray his claims to represent progressive “hope” and “change.” He loaded his presidency with highly placed financial and corporate operatives who worked with him and other Washington politicians to bail out the very Wall Street parasites who had recklessly collapsed the U.S. economy. With Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress and an angry, “pitchfork”-wielding populace at the gates, an actually progressive President Obama could have rallied the populace to push back against the nation’s concentrated wealth and power structures by moving ahead aggressively with a number of majority-backed policies: a stimulus with major public works jobs programs; a real (single-payer) health insurance reform; the serious disciplining and even break-up or nationalization of the leading financial institutions; massive federal housing assistance and mortgage relief; and passage of the Employee Free Choice Act, which would have re-legalized union organizing in the U.S.

But no such policy initiatives issued from the White House. Barry Citigroup Obama opted instead for the government to keep giving the U.S. populace what William Greider memorably called “a blunt lesson about power, who has it and who doesn’t.” Under Obama no less than under Bush, Americans “watched Washington rush to rescue the very financial interests that caused the catastrophe. They learned,” Greider wrote:

“that government has plenty of money to spend when the right people want it. ‘Where’s my bailout,’ became the rueful punch line at lunch counters and construction sites nationwide. Then to deepen the insult, the American people watched as establishment forces [under Obama’s fake-progressive cover] re-launched their campaign for ‘entitlement reform’ – a euphemism for whacking Social Security benefits, Medicare and Medicaid.”

Americans also watched as Obama moved on to pass a health insurance reform (the so-called Affordable Care Act) that only the big insurance and drug companies could love, kicking the popular alternative (single payer “Medicare for All”) to the curb while rushing to pass a program drafted by the Republican Heritage Foundation and first carried out in Massachusetts by the arch 1 Percenter Mitt Romney.

This article is probably a bit too demanding for most people; but it is really an excellent one!
