Fukushima Daiichi Update Feb 16 2016

Its actually Feb 15 here in the US but Feb 16 on the Fukushima webcams, given Japan is ahead of the US in time zones.

The heavy emissions over the weekend have lessened considerably.

There is something strange however that I would like to document. TEPCO cam 1 (trained on the Unit 1 reactor at Fukushima Daiichi) has a new black-and-white coloration whereas previously the coloration of the lens tended toward yellow, as illustrated in these shots:

Feb 13, 2016 yellow tinged (unrelated to the level of emissions)

Compare the yellowing tinge (above) with the coloration today (below)

I don't think the change in color has anything to do with the volume of emissions. Rather, I think that TEPCO changed the filter or the settings on the cam, with the resulting loss of color.

I've never seen the unit 1 cam look so black-and-white. I suspect the change was designed to filter out some phenomenon that TEPCO doesn't want us to see, although I could be overly suspicious.
