March 1 Fukushima Diary: Reactor Buildings are Hidden by Thick Smoke

Majia here: Someone suggested that the "smoke" visible in the last link is actually fog. I hope that is the case. However, the releases visible in the first and second links posted here are clearly steam/smoke issuing from the ground.

FUKUSHIMA IS NOT IN COLD SHUTDOWN.

  1. You are right, it's not fog -- could be steam but I think smoke in this case. It's clearly escaping with velocity and then expanding, suggesting the source is confined in some way, such as one of the ground fissures.
