NYT: Learning to Live With Voices

This is a fascinating and optimistic account of how people with schizophrenia can learn to live with the haunting and often berating voices in their head.

The anti-psychotic drugs used to "treat' schizophrenia are often regarded by patients as unpleasant. Some patients regard these drugs as being as bad as the symptoms.

So, it is wonderful that some individuals with this crippling disorder could learn to live with voices.

Still, even after developing this coping strategy, I am sure that people with the disorder require some additional accommodations as I understand that STRESS significantly exacerbates symptoms.

I'm a strong advocate for accommodations for those who need them.

Everyone of us could ourselves someday require accommodations as age, illness, or injury leaves us needing just a bit more assistance or supports in the world.
