Merchant of Death: Pfizer Drug Tied to Heart Risks

by Thomas M. Burton in the July 5 2011 print edition of the WSJ page B3

Direct quotes from the article noted in blue print

"Pfizer Inc.'s smoking-cessation drug Chantix was linked to a 72% increase in risk of cardiovascular problems, including stroke and congestive heart failure, according to a new analysis of medical studies"

The study's co-author Curt D. Burberg of Wake Forest was quoted as saying "the sum of all serious adverse effects of Chantix clearly outweigh the most positive effect of the drug."

Not surprisingly, "J. Taylor Hays, a Mayo Clinic doctor who has received funding from Pfizer for research on Chantix, responded in a commentary, 'The risk for serious cardiovascular events is low and greatly outweighed by the benefits of diminishing the truly heartbreaking effects of smoking'"

MAJIA HERE. Chantix has also been linked to PSYCHOSIS, as reported in 2008 in the Washington Times

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jul/08/doctors-raised-chantix-worries-last-year/
"Early reports” from doctors at VA medical centers were flowing in throughout 2007, well before the U.S. government and drug maker Pfizer Inc. issued public warnings late last year and earlier this year that Chantix had been linked to psychotic behavior, hallucinations and suicides, VA officials said..."

THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES ARE AS MUCH MERCHANTS OF DEATH AS THEY ARE MERCHANTS OF LIFE
